About this world
Kepler-62 b is a super-Earth orbiting Kepler-62, an orange dwarf (type K2V) 981 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.3 times the size of Earth and holds 9 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 5.71 days at 0.055 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.
Its equilibrium temperature is about 750 K (477 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere.
It was discovered in 2013 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. Kepler-62 has 5 known planets; the others are Kepler-62 c, Kepler-62 d, Kepler-62 e and Kepler-62 f.
