About this world
HD 219134 b is a super-Earth orbiting HD 219134, an orange dwarf (type K3V) 21.3 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.6 times the size of Earth and holds 4.7 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 3.09 days at 0.039 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.
Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,015 K (742 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock.
It was discovered in 2015 by radial velocity with Roque de los Muchachos Observatory. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum. HD 219134 has 6 known planets; the others are HD 219134 c, HD 219134 f, HD 219134 d, HD 219134 g and HD 219134 h.
