About this world

WISPIT 2 b is a gas giant orbiting WISPIT 2, an orange dwarf 440 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.6 times the size of Jupiter and holds 4.9 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 33 K (−240 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2025 by direct imaging with Paranal Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph. WISPIT 2 has 2 known planets; the others are WISPIT 2 c.
