About this world
L 98-59 f is a super-Earth orbiting L 98-59, a cool red dwarf (type M3V) 34.6 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.5 times the size of Earth (its size estimated from its mass), with at least 2.8 Earth masses (a minimum, measured by radial velocity). It completes an orbit every 23.1 days at 0.11 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.
Its equilibrium temperature is about 285 K (12 °C), which places it in the optimistic habitable zone: the band where liquid water could exist on a rocky surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere.
It was discovered in 2025 by radial velocity with Multiple Facilities. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum. L 98-59 has 5 known planets; the others are L 98-59 b, L 98-59 c, L 98-59 d and L 98-59 e.
