About this world

L 98-59 e is a super-Earth orbiting L 98-59, a cool red dwarf (type M3V) 34.6 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.5 times the size of Earth (its size estimated from its mass), with at least 2.8 Earth masses (a minimum, measured by radial velocity). It completes an orbit every 12.8 days at 0.071 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 347 K (74 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere.

It was discovered in 2021 by radial velocity with Multiple Observatories. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum. L 98-59 has 5 known planets; the others are L 98-59 b, L 98-59 c, L 98-59 d and L 98-59 f.
