About this world

Kepler-82 f is a Neptune-like planet orbiting Kepler-82, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G) 2.95 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 4.8 times the size of Earth (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 21 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 75.7 days at 0.34 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 424 K (150 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2019 by timing variations with KOINet. Pulsar, eclipse or transit timings drift as an unseen companion tugs on them. Kepler-82 has 5 known planets; the others are Kepler-82 d, Kepler-82 e, Kepler-82 b and Kepler-82 c.
