About this world

Kepler-82 d is a super-Earth orbiting Kepler-82, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G) 2.95 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 1.8 times the size of Earth and holds 890 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 2.38 days at 0.034 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,253 K (980 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere.

It was discovered in 2014 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. Kepler-82 has 5 known planets; the others are Kepler-82 e, Kepler-82 b, Kepler-82 c and Kepler-82 f.
