About this world

Kepler-102 f is an Earth-sized planet orbiting Kepler-102, an orange dwarf 352 light-years from Earth. It is about 0.86 times the size of Earth and holds 4.3 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 27.5 days at 0.17 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 495 K (222 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere.

It was discovered in 2014 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. Kepler-102 has 5 known planets; the others are Kepler-102 b, Kepler-102 c, Kepler-102 d and Kepler-102 e.
