About this world

Kepler-102 d is an Earth-sized planet orbiting Kepler-102, an orange dwarf 352 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.2 times the size of Earth and holds 3 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 10.3 days at 0.086 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 686 K (413 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 2 spectroscopic observations.

It was discovered in 2014 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. Kepler-102 has 5 known planets; the others are Kepler-102 b, Kepler-102 c, Kepler-102 e and Kepler-102 f.
