About this world

WISPIT 1 c is a gas giant orbiting WISPIT 1, an orange dwarf (type K4V) 750 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 5.3 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 8 K (−265 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2025 by direct imaging with Paranal Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph. WISPIT 1 has 2 known planets; the others are WISPIT 1 b.
