About this world

WISEP J121756.91+162640.2 A b is a gas giant orbiting WISEP J121756.91+162640.2 A, a cool red dwarf (type T8.5) 32.9 light-years from Earth. It is about 0.93 times the size of Jupiter and holds 22 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 450 K (177 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2012 by direct imaging with W. M. Keck Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
