About this world

WASP-47 e is a super-Earth orbiting WASP-47, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G9) 864 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.8 times the size of Earth and holds 9 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 19 hours at 0.017 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,992 K (1,719 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 2 spectroscopic observations, all of them with the James Webb Space Telescope.

It was discovered in 2015 by transit with K2. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. WASP-47 has 4 known planets; the others are WASP-47 b, WASP-47 d and WASP-47 c.
