About this world

WASP-148 b is a Neptune-like planet orbiting WASP-148, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G) 803 light-years from Earth. It is about 0.76 times the size of Jupiter and holds 0.29 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 8.8 days at 0.082 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.21).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 940 K (667 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium. Its atmosphere has already been studied in one spectroscopic observation by the James Webb Space Telescope.

It was discovered in 2020 by transit with SuperWASP-North. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. WASP-148 has 2 known planets; the others are WASP-148 c.
