About this world

USco1621 b is a gas giant orbiting USco1621 A, a cool red dwarf (type M2.5V) 450 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 16 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,270 K (1,997 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2019 by direct imaging with Multiple Observatories. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
