About this world

TYC 8998-760-1 b is a gas giant orbiting TYC 8998-760-1, an orange dwarf (type K3IV) 309 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.9 times the size of Jupiter and holds 22 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,638 K (2,365 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 2 spectroscopic observations.

It was discovered in 2020 by direct imaging with Paranal Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph. TYC 8998-760-1 has 2 known planets; the others are TYC 8998-760-1 c.
