About this world

TOI-561 b is a super-Earth orbiting TOI-561, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G9V) 280 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.4 times the size of Earth and holds 2 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 10.7 hours at 0.011 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,319 K (2,046 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 3 spectroscopic observations, 2 of them with the James Webb Space Telescope.

It was discovered in 2020 by transit with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. TOI-561 has 4 known planets; the others are TOI-561 c, TOI-561 d and TOI-561 e.
