About this world
TOI-2134 c is a Neptune-like planet orbiting TOI-2134, an orange dwarf (type K5V) 73.8 light-years from Earth. It is about 0.66 times the size of Jupiter and holds 0.18 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 95.9 days at 0.37 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.31).
Its equilibrium temperature is about 302 K (29 °C), which places it in the optimistic habitable zone: the band where liquid water could exist on a rocky surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 2 spectroscopic observations, all of them with the James Webb Space Telescope.
It was discovered in 2023 by transit with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. TOI-2134 has 2 known planets; the others are TOI-2134 b.
