About this world

ROXs 42 B b is a gas giant orbiting ROXs 42 B, a cool red dwarf (type M0) 468 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 9 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,975 K (1,702 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2013 by direct imaging with Multiple Observatories. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
