About this world

ROXs 12 b is a gas giant orbiting ROXs 12, a cool red dwarf (type M0) 446 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 16 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 13 K (−260 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2013 by direct imaging with W. M. Keck Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
