About this world

OGLE-2005-BLG-071L b is a gas giant orbiting OGLE-2005-BLG-071L, a star 10.4 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 1.2 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 3.8 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 55 K (−218 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2005 by microlensing with OGLE. A foreground star's gravity magnifies a background star; a planet adds a blip.
