About this world
MXB 1658-298 b is a gas giant orbiting MXB 1658-298, a star. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 24 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 2.08 years at 1.6 AU from its star.
At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.
It was discovered in 2017 by timing variations with Multiple Observatories. Pulsar, eclipse or transit timings drift as an unseen companion tugs on them.
