About this world

LP 890-9 b is a super-Earth orbiting LP 890-9, a cool red dwarf (type M6V) 106 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.3 times the size of Earth and holds 13 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 2.73 days at 0.019 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 396 K (123 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 8 spectroscopic observations, all of them with the James Webb Space Telescope.

It was discovered in 2022 by transit with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. LP 890-9 has 2 known planets; the others are LP 890-9 c.
