About this world

LP 261-75 b is a gas giant orbiting LP 261-75 A, a cool red dwarf (type M4.5V) 111 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 21 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,500 K (1,227 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2006 by direct imaging with Apache Point Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
