About this world

KOINTREAU-3 b is a gas giant orbiting ISO-Oph 96, an orange dwarf (type K6-M1) 458 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.2 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 3.4 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 9 K (−264 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2026 by direct imaging with W. M. Keck Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
