About this world

KOI-984 c is a gas giant orbiting KOI-984, a yellow, Sun-like star 824 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.3 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 0.66 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 21.5 days at 0.15 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.38).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 597 K (324 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2022 by timing variations with Kepler. Pulsar, eclipse or transit timings drift as an unseen companion tugs on them. KOI-984 has 2 known planets; the others are KOI-984 b.
