About this world
KOI-4777.01 is an Earth-sized planet orbiting KOI-4777, a cool red dwarf 562 light-years from Earth. It is about 0.51 times the size of Earth and holds 99 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 9.89 hours at 0.008 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.
Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,180 K (907 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere.
It was discovered in 2022 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction.
