About this world

KOI-142 c is a gas giant orbiting KOI-142, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G) 1.23 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 1.2 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 0.67 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 22.3 days at 0.15 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 636 K (363 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2013 by timing variations with Kepler. Pulsar, eclipse or transit timings drift as an unseen companion tugs on them. KOI-142 has 3 known planets; the others are KOI-142 b and Kepler-88 d.
