About this world

Kepler-725 c is a sub-Neptune orbiting Kepler-725, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G) 2.47 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 3.1 times the size of Earth (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 9.7 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 208 days at 0.67 AU from its star, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.44).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 268 K (−5 °C), which places it in the optimistic habitable zone: the band where liquid water could exist on a rocky surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2025 by timing variations with Kepler. Pulsar, eclipse or transit timings drift as an unseen companion tugs on them. Kepler-725 has 2 known planets; the others are Kepler-725 b.
