About this world

Kepler-46 b is a Neptune-like planet orbiting Kepler-46, an orange dwarf (type K) 2.53 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 0.81 times the size of Jupiter and holds 6 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 33.6 days at 0.2 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 543 K (270 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2012 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. Kepler-46 has 3 known planets; the others are Kepler-46 d and Kepler-46 c.
