About this world

Kepler-296 f is a super-Earth orbiting Kepler-296, a cool red dwarf (type M2V) 545 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.8 times the size of Earth. It completes an orbit every 63.3 days at 0.26 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.33).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 274 K (1 °C), which places it in the conservative habitable zone: the band where liquid water could exist on a rocky surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere.

It was discovered in 2014 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. Kepler-296 has 5 known planets; the others are Kepler-296 c, Kepler-296 b, Kepler-296 d and Kepler-296 e.
