About this world

Kepler-279 e is a Neptune-like planet orbiting Kepler-279, a yellow-white F-type star 3.38 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 4.1 times the size of Earth and holds 56 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 98.4 days at 0.44 AU from its star.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 552 K (279 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2025 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. Kepler-279 has 4 known planets; the others are Kepler-279 b, Kepler-279 c and Kepler-279 d.
