About this world

Kepler-249 d is a super-Earth orbiting Kepler-249, a cool red dwarf (type M2V) 621 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.6 times the size of Earth. It completes an orbit every 15.4 days at 0.097 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 332 K (59 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 2 spectroscopic observations.

It was discovered in 2014 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. Kepler-249 has 3 known planets; the others are Kepler-249 b and Kepler-249 c.
