About this world

Kepler-1708 b is a Neptune-like planet orbiting Kepler-1708, a yellow-white F-type star 5.44 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 0.89 times the size of Jupiter and holds 4.6 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 2.02 years at 1.6 AU from its star, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.4).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 245 K (−28 °C), which places it in the conservative habitable zone: the band where liquid water could exist on a rocky surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2021 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction.
