About this world

Kepler-1704 b is a gas giant orbiting Kepler-1704, a yellow, Sun-like star 2.72 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter and holds 4.2 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 2.71 years at 2 AU from its star, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.92).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 254 K (−19 °C), which places it in the optimistic habitable zone: the band where liquid water could exist on a rocky surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2021 by transit with Kepler. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction.
