About this world

K2-184 b is an Earth-sized planet orbiting K2-184, an orange dwarf (type K1V) 247 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.2 times the size of Earth and holds 11 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 17 days at 0.12 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.57).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 671 K (398 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", it has likely held on to an atmosphere.

It was discovered in 2018 by transit with K2. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction.
