About this world

HR 858 c is a super-Earth orbiting HR 858, a yellow-white F-type star (type F6V) 104 light-years from Earth. It is about 2 times the size of Earth and holds 3.8 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 5.97 days at 0.069 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,309 K (1,036 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock.

It was discovered in 2019 by transit with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. HR 858 has 3 known planets; the others are HR 858 b and HR 858 d.
