About this world

HR 5183 b is a gas giant orbiting HR 5183, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G0V) 103 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.2 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 3.3 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 73.9 years at 18 AU from its star, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.84).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 171 K (−102 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2019 by radial velocity with Multiple Observatories. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum.
