About this world

HIP 79098 AB b is a gas giant orbiting HIP 79098 AB, a hot blue star (type B9V) 476 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 21 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,450 K (2,177 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2019 by direct imaging with Paranal Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
