About this world
HIP 65 A b is a gas giant orbiting HIP 65 A, an orange dwarf (type K4V) 202 light-years from Earth. It is about 2 times the size of Jupiter and holds 3.2 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 23.5 hours at 0.018 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.
Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,411 K (1,138 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.
It was discovered in 2020 by transit with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction.
