About this world

HD 96700 c is a super-Earth orbiting HD 96700, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G0V) 82.9 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.7 times the size of Earth (its size estimated from its mass), with at least 3.5 Earth masses (a minimum, measured by radial velocity). It completes an orbit every 19.9 days at 0.14 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.29).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 808 K (535 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock.

It was discovered in 2021 by radial velocity with La Silla Observatory. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum. HD 96700 has 3 known planets; the others are HD 96700 b and HD 96700 d.
