About this world

HD 88986 b is a sub-Neptune orbiting HD 88986, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G2V) 109 light-years from Earth. It is about 2.5 times the size of Earth and holds 17 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 146 days at 0.58 AU from its star, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.24).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 460 K (187 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2023 by radial velocity with Haute-Provence Observatory. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum.
