About this world

HD 80653 b is a super-Earth orbiting HD 80653, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G0V) 358 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.6 times the size of Earth and holds 5.6 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 17.3 hours at 0.017 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,438 K (2,165 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock.

It was discovered in 2020 by transit with K2. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. HD 80653 has 2 known planets; the others are K2-312 c.
