About this world

HD 7924 d is a gas giant orbiting HD 7924, an orange dwarf (type K0.5V) 55.4 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 4.9 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 24.5 days at 0.16 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.21).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 499 K (226 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2015 by radial velocity with W. M. Keck Observatory. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum. HD 7924 has 3 known planets; the others are HD 7924 b and HD 7924 c.
