About this world

HD 137496 b is a super-Earth orbiting HD 137496, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G) 507 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.3 times the size of Earth and holds 4 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 1.62 days at 0.027 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,130 K (1,857 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock.

It was discovered in 2021 by transit with K2. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. HD 137496 has 2 known planets; the others are HD 137496 c.
