About this world

HD 118203 b is a gas giant orbiting HD 118203, an orange dwarf (type K0IV) 301 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter and holds 2.1 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 6.13 days at 0.071 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.31).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,361 K (1,088 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2005 by radial velocity with Haute-Provence Observatory. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum. HD 118203 has 2 known planets; the others are HD 118203 c.
