About this world
HD 108236 b is a super-Earth orbiting HD 108236, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G3V) 211 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.6 times the size of Earth. It completes an orbit every 3.8 days at 0.045 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.
Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,099 K (826 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock.
It was discovered in 2020 by transit with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. HD 108236 has 5 known planets; the others are HD 108236 c, TOI-1233.01, HD 108236 e and HD 108236 f.
