About this world

HD 106906 b is a gas giant orbiting HD 106906, a yellow-white F-type star (type F5V) 336 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 11 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,800 K (1,527 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2013 by direct imaging with Las Campanas Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
