About this world

HD 100546 b is a gas giant orbiting HD 100546, a hot blue star (type B9VNE) 358 light-years from Earth. It is about 6.9 times the size of Jupiter and holds 8.5 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 95 K (−178 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2014 by direct imaging with Paranal Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
