About this world

HATS-18 b is a gas giant orbiting HATS-18, a yellow, Sun-like star (type GV) 2.04 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 1.3 times the size of Jupiter and holds 2 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 20.1 hours at 0.017 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,070 K (1,796 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2016 by transit with Multiple Observatories. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction.
