About this world

HAT-P-65 b is a gas giant orbiting HAT-P-65, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G2) 2.41 thousand light-years from Earth. It is about 1.6 times the size of Jupiter and holds 0.55 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 2.61 days at 0.04 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.3).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,818 K (1,545 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 2 spectroscopic observations, all of them with the James Webb Space Telescope.

It was discovered in 2016 by transit with HATNet. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction.
